Tapscott is a bright guy - but
From Ivan's article today:
After watching the Hawks hit 11 of 25 three-point attempts Saturday night, Tapscott acknowledged the obvious: The Wizards' three-point defense is a problem.
Ya Think?
I always thought that NBA Coaches were supposed to be smarter than the average fan.....but it's been painfully obvious for years that the Wizards Defensive schemes are tailored to limiting inside scoring. For years, all we've heard is "protect the rim"... "protect the paint".... "stop dribble penetration"......
We've NEVER heard anything from the Coaching staff about sticking close to shooters........ or protecting the 3-point line..... or finding the hot shooter early and get on him........
Watching the Wizards play Defense - you can tell what they've been taught. Every perimeter player cheats to the paint; every game, every play. Not one sticks to his man, unless he has the ball.
It's always been about "protecting the rim". - well........ IT AIN'T WORKING.
So, whoever is in charge of the Defensive schemes, whether it's Ayers or Tapscott, needs to radically rearrange their thought processes.
This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

Well....
If people stick to their man, it’s going to be a straight layup drill.
Yes, the popular thinking is that you’d rather have a team beat you from the 3-point line and not the paint.
But it’s not that simple, and Tapscott acknowledged such when he spoke of running the three point shooters from that line and making them shoot on the move, which is harder than spotting up from a distance.
Now, I haven’t seen the past couple of games in depth, so I can’t really attest to if the Wizards are doing this more…..but, I still think the Wizards need to protect the paint first and foremost.
