Sergio Rodriguez Wants Minutes
Sergio's agent is making some noise here in Portland by demanding a trade through a Spanish newspaper. What would you give up from your roster for the exciting, young PG from Portland? Would he get minutes from Eddie Jordan? Do you guys even know who I am talking about?
That last question was not meant to offend you about your NBA knowledge but to try to guage what another group of fans thinks about a back-up PG from Spain who has been limited to less than 10 minutes a game since he excited Blazer fans (some more than others) his rookie season with some electrifying play.
This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

Not sure if I'd do that deal just yet
Juan Dixon seems to have the thing under control so far. Plus, Rodriguez excels in a free-wheeling offense, whereas the WIzards run the Princeton. He’d probably be a poor fit in D.C.

What he said
I really, really like Sergio Rodriguez and I’d love to see him toss some JaVale-oops,, but it takes some time to learn this offense and we just don’t have that right now. That, and I don’t see him playing ahead of Juan Dixon right now (which I didn’t envision saying 2 weeks ago).
So I would say no right now, but that’s not an indictment of Sergio. It’s just not the right time of place.

so..
Both of you would be high on Sergio, unsure of the fit with Wizards?
Is Nate McMillen crazy for choosing Blake over Sergio? Or does he just not fit the Blazers style either?

Doesn't fit their style
Portland plays very slowly and meticulously. Blake’s the better fit for that style.

I assume he'd be the "PG of the future" type
To play behind Gilbert/AD/Juan. If so, I like him offensively, but I’d rather have a better defender at that spot.
Besides, we are kind of loaded with quantity at guard. You want Oleksiy Pecherov?
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

No...
What about Pryzbilla and Sergio for Daniels and McGee? You would get solid defense and more than solid rebounding for 25 minutes a night and a possible PG of the future by giving up your possible Center of the future.
Is that even in the ballpark in terms of value? Would picks or rights to overseas players make it more realistic?

No Pryzbilla
Contract’s too long. And we’re not trading McGee.

That is what I needed to know
We have alot of people throwing trade ideas around over at BE, and it is all well and good, but it is always hard to know what the percieved value of your players are around the league.

Pryzbilla and Sergio for Daniels and McGeee BAHAHahAHaHAHAHAHA! That cant be a serious offer, can it? Why dont we just give you Nick Young for Steve Blake while were at it. Oh that was good for a laugh.

That is why I was asking...
A lot of Blazer fans are high on Sergio for his potenial and think he will thrive with a coach not named Nate McMillen. I am just trying to get an idea of what other fans think of him outside of Portland.

I didn't check the salaries because I know the answer from Portland's end...
But, I’ll give you Blatche, Pecherov, and Daniels for LaMarcus Aldridge and Rodriguez….TODAY! HA!

I know you have a tenuous relationship with Hollinger here, but I'll quote him anyway
The money quote from [Rodriguez’s] agent, Javier Ortiz, is (translated from Spanish), “What he can never be is a half-court point guard.”

Problem is, most teams play that way

that is what I don't understand about Sergio love...
Phoenix looked really good for a few years but it didn’t get them to the Finals. Golden State shook things up one year and Dallas with Nellie made some noise, but again, no Finals appearances. The teams that win can run off of defense to get easy baskets but tend to play a more controlled game overall.
If Sergio is a running only PG, he will only play a lot of minutes on a team that is committed to the run and thus will probably not seriously challange for a title.

Well, hold on now
You can win playing fast. Most teams just choose not to do so. There’s less correlation between pace and winning that people think there is.
Last year, five of the top ten teams in pace were playoff teams. The issue is that even a team like Utah is comparatively slow compared to how it used to be.
Sergio just isn’t as good as he thinks he is. That’s all. He’ll make a living on a speedy team’s second unit somewhere.

OK
I think my point was “run only”. If he wants to be a winning PG he will have to learn to play more effectively when things bog down like they ultimately do in the playoffs. He is young and shows signs that he can do this but for now he is most comfortable in the open court. The court is not as open once the second season starts.
