Horrific...

It’s going to be a long season. Best lineup: Dixon, Young, Butler, Jamison, McGee/Songaila.

what the $%^& was EJ thinkin with 6 mins to go in the 4th quarter, he pulls out the reserve even though they ply well (especially nick young) and put starters in. From that point on, it went down hill. I mean, f the reserves r plyin well, dont pull them out, LET THEM PLY! The momentum is in our way at that time, he sub starters in, and they lost their momentum at that point. Especially, I think at least NY should continued to ply through the rest of the game cause he ply really well, EJ sub DSteve in and he cause us to lose a gm. Also Mcgee ply very well, and he should get more plying time! and bench blatch (4 to in the first half).. I decide to do ma homeworks later tonight and watch this game for full 2 and half hrs..and instead they lost the game they should have won. im heartbroken and im gonna go to sleep!.. again, i strongly believe EJ cause us to lose a game b/c of that sub in the 4th quarter

Starting backcourt is a mess

We get nothing, I mean nothing from Antonio Daniels. Stevenson thinks he is a 3pt shooter. As far as the front court, Caron is doing his part but is good for turning the ball over at a critcal spot. Jamison talks a big game but his shot selection is horrible. Dre? Who he?

by nicefellow31 on Nov 5, 2008 10:59 PM EST reply actions

Honestly, Eddie Jordan needs to be fired for that game.

So many obvious mistakes …

PS: AD is done and DeShawn and his defense are now officially “overrated”!

Eddie Jordan likes to shoot dogs, doesn't he?!

Drat

Thanks to 55 points from Tony Parker (and 26 from Roger Mason) we can no longer say that we’ve won as many games as the Spurs.

But we’re still as good as the Kings and Clippers!

are crushing the Griz and the Clips are playing LA tight (midway through the 3rd anyway). We officially SUCK.

I'm No Longer Defending Stevenson

His defense looked a bit better tonight to start the game, but his offense was terrible. And he had the worst +/- on the team. Of course, AD wasn’t much better, and it doesn’t help that Eddie likes to play them both together all of the time.

For the 3rd straight game, our bench plays outstanding. For the second straight game, AJ and Caron play well. The problem? AD and DeShawn. They both deserve to be benched.

New starting lineup: Etan/McGee, AJ, Caron, Young, Dixon. And for all those who ask, no, it is not too early to bench our backcourt. Unless you want our team to have 10+ losses going into December.

Bitch all you want abot AD and Stevenson

But Songila was the reason we lost this game. Yeah, those guys didn’t help and I was screaming for Nick Young. But if McGee stays in that game instead of Songila, we win. I don’t understand why you would leave in a defense liability when you are trying to protect a lead?

by zeke5123 on Nov 6, 2008 1:00 AM EST reply actions

What Are You Talking About?

Songaila was +2 for the game! Compare that to DeShawn (-22) and AD (-15). Songaila was part of the lineup that overcame that huge deficit in the second quarter. Don’t blame him, there are more worthy candidates for the blame last night.

Songalia looked terrible in OT tho.

We stopped being able to control the paint when he was in. He wasn’t the only reason we lost, but he was a factor.

I don’t really blame him, it was EJ giving away yet another game by going small.

Depressing

FUCK AL JEFFERSON FUCK THAT OLU BABA WHOEVER AND FUCK OUR CURSE FUCK DESHAWN AND FUCK OUR 4TH QUARTER LOSSES

Sorry I have to vent.. I have been a year after year after year supporter of the Wizards and this is the last fucking draw man… Not even two weeks in the season and im seriously depressed. We do so well bust our ass sweat blood and tears for a fucking loss… Unfortunately in this world we live in a loss means your nothing your either first or nothing… And right now we are nothing

3 Things I would like to State:

1. Deshawn is officially done, he is potentially the worst player on the team… Stop starting him and put Nick Young in.

2. What the fuck is up with horrible officiating in the fourth quarter? Dont tell me it was well officiated, if you say so your a friggin idiot. There were plenty of fouls that were not called then on the Wizards would just blow on a Milwaukee player AND FOUL.

3. Why are we cursed why???

I am so sick and tired of this shit I planned my day so I could watch them play, I watched ALL THE WAY THROUGH they had a 12 point lead in the 4TH QUARTER AND THEY LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eddie stop fucking putting Deshawns ass in the game. Wat happened to the days when Stevenson posterized Jefferson with a vicious dunk and his awesome 3 point shooting suddently he looks like a scared 5 year old pussy heading to the paint, his ball handlings bad and his shot percentage is horrible…

Im tired, I need to strangle myself to sleep tonight… thats all folks hopefully CURSE O’ FUCKING ANNOYING will move onto another team (Cleveland please then Milwaukee)

Oh yeah I respect AD he is playing well in my eyes, JAMISON & CARON thank you so much for playing so hard for no reason Im sorry deshawn and songaila had to ruin it for us….

WASHINGTON CURSE thats what our team should be called THE CURSE

Jamison has 3 stiches on his lip for nothing

by Unxpekted on Nov 6, 2008 1:14 AM EST reply actions

OUCH

There will be a LOT of venting after this one fo sure. And I hope that some of it will be coming from the one man who can actually DO something about it — Coach Jordan.

Unxpekted, I have been a great fan of Antonio Daniels over the years but, sadly he has pretty much run out of gas. It is unfair to ask him to keep giving the team 30-35 minutes a game when that was not even his role when he was a younger player. 15 decent minutes should all be anyone can expect of him… We can use him that way, or if there is another team that could use him effectively in that role (Houston, Denver now…) then we should try to move him.

DeShawn Stevenson is a streak shooter whose defense clearly does not hold up when he is in a shooting slump. He only has meaningful value when he is paired on-court with Gilbert Arenas.

The numbers speak for themselves, Nick Young and Juan Dixon are producing points and plus scores… For now, they have earned starters’ minutes at the guard spots.

At center, Andray Blatche can’t hack it mentally and Darius Songaila can’t hack it physically (though he is worth 10 minutes behind AJ). Etan perhaps should still start when he is healthy… but even if JaVale may be raw, when a young center gives you 9 and 5 in 13 minutes, you really have to see if he can sustain that pace for 25-30 minutes.

Above all, Coach needs to surround AJ and CB with a starting unit that can draw some defensive respect, and our starting guards are not doing it. The Wizards cannot risk having their two best current players take a defensive pounding night in and night out and still expect them to have any gas left in their tanks when Gil finally returns.

Agreed on AD

I love the guy’s game, but so far this season he just looks….well, he looks old. That can only get worse as the year goes on. Somebody else needs to come in and run the point for a while, i wouldn’t mind stevenson taking over the one with NY as a 2 until gil comes back. AD will still be valuable off the bench for us, but he just can’t log big minutes and he can’t play long stretches where we want to go uptempo (which we need to do from the start). Please come back healthy this time gil.

Eddie's Comments After the Game

Everybody read this!

Quote from Eddie:

“That was not NBA basketball, it’s as simple as that,” Jordan said. “There were no NBA plays being made out there. We addressed them tonight in the locker room, so I’m going to put a careful eye on our personnel and what we are doing out there. I think the trend is telling me something. I’m trying to be loyal to NBA vets and the continuity theme but I’m growing very impatient with it.

Might Eddie actually be thinking what we are all thinking? Would he actually consider benching AD and/or DeShawn?

I’m repeating this quote as a FanShot.

Give me a break

I know this has been stated before, but it can’t be stressed enough: To anyone watching the game, the Wizards’ best lineup, by far, was Dixon, Young, Butler, Jamison, and McGee/Songaila. Blatche didn’t play well in the first half, but he stepped it up at least a bit in the second half. Stevenson and Daniels were terrible and seem to be the biggest reasons why the Wizards have been down 10-15 points when they come out of the game. Daniels only played 21 minutes, but there’s no reason why Stevenson should be playing 37 minutes, even in an overtime game.

Also, the Wizards had 51 free throw attempts and made only 34 of them, which is awful. Anytime a team gets that many free throws, they should win the game handily. When Jordan had Daniels and Stevenson playing together down the final stretch of the game, he was basically begging the Bucks to get back in the game. He has to realize that some changes are necessary — not necessarily in the starting lineups, but definitely in distributing the minutes around to better players. Also, McGee played well and deserved more than 13 minutes.

by Matt K. on Nov 6, 2008 9:04 AM EST up reply actions

The glass is definitely half empty

In the game last night, the turning point of the evening was when EJ took out McGuire McGee and Young after they had all been absolutely killing it. Young was very active offensively and nobody on the Bucks was even attempting to go inside with the other two in there, we were able to limit them to perimeter shots, and establish a solid lead… but, well we all know what happened after they left.

For all of you calling for EJ’s head, I can understand the frustrations, but it’s not EJ’s fault that Deshawn AD,Blatche and Dsong didn’t do their jobs. . Apart from Blatche, they’re veteran players. EJ goes to them when he there is a need to keep things together or protect leads. They’re players he can usually depend on, but in this case and many others this season, they let him (and us down).

Blatche should be benched until he maybe learns a thing or two from McGee… I’m starting to believe Blatche is never going to come around. He plays like an idiot. There is nothing smart, creative, intelligent or physical about his game, it’s all athletic promise, which sadly… looks all for naught. hope he proves me wrong

McGuire is as good, if not better than Deshawn defensively and the same as him offensively (black hole with no creativity). Deshawn does have more intagibles, but DMac should get more than a few minutes a night.

Young and McGee… we just need to find more time for them both. I was really pissed when we drafted McGee, but from what i’ve seen so far he could turn out to be great. Definitely better (hungrier?) than blatche.

by TremendousUpside on Nov 6, 2008 9:41 AM EST reply actions

One Bone to Pick
Apart from Blatche, they’re veteran players.

Wrong. I know that he’s still very young, but it’s time for us to stop making excuses for Blatche’s poor play (not saying you were). This is his 4th season in the league. He should have learned how to produce at this level by now. He can still get better, but his lack of progress is very disconcerting.

Exactly what I was thinking

If, by year 4, he has not yet learned to bring his best effort every night (regardless of the results…. see Jamison, Antawn) – then he shouldn’t be part of the regular rotation.

by Rook6980 on Nov 6, 2008 10:41 AM EST up reply actions

My thoughts

I don’t think AD is old, I think he’s injured. Not only is his explosiveness almost gone, but his shot, really everything. I would guess that a dropoff this sudden is not age, but injury that i not being made public.

Songila played well. So did McGee. Those of you looking at the plusses of McGee’s night and calling for him to start should also look at the minuses. He got lost on D several times. I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve minutes, but if we’re going to look at DSong’s downsides we should look at McGee’s too.

The starting O has no spark. Totally flat. All jumpers. I still don’t think Young is the best answer, but the question is certainly out there. Dixon might be an option. He seems more able to keep himself within the offense than Young, who is saving our butts but freelancing.

3 games down, 79 to go

There’s still time to right this ship. But let’s not forget that we still have the same core players as we’d had for the last three seasons.

by Pryme on Nov 6, 2008 11:10 AM EST reply actions

Bad

I’m pretty depressed right now. I know we started poorly last year and turned it around, and I know we’re without 2 very important starters, but I am very worried that we’ll be playing ping pong next spring rather than playoff hoops.

First off, AD looks done. It would have been nice if we could have unloaded him and his contract before this, but that didn’t happen. Now, all he does is dribble the ball to little advantage and yell at the other guys. No defense and very little playmaking. Oy.

Next, whatever magic Dave Hopla worked last season, he needs to do that again, because we left 15 free points on the table. As awful as the turnovers and the transition D were, a few more makes from the line, and we win.

Third, Jamison looked awful. Every jump shot he took looked flat — no chance of going in. — and while I know he’s capable of hitting those unorthodox flip shots when he’s posting up, he was just flinging them toward the basket last night. When they have so little chance of going in, it’s hard for me to consider it a good shot.

Fourth, I am having a hard time getting behind the decision to have Songaila as our crunch time center. He can’t defend and he can’t rebound. We’re struggling to score pretty much every time down, then on the other end, we’re scrambling to make up for the fact that the other team can just throw it to whoever he’s covering and have a huge advantage. And even if they miss, they’ve got a great chance at an offensive rebound. It’s just too big a disadvantage to make up.

Finally, I’d like to see more of Nick Young, who is our second-best scorer right now, and JaVale McGee (never thought I’d say that three games into the season) because he injects so much athleticism into our lineup.

"Now, obviously individual production does not unilaterally equal better team production, but there's a high level of causation."

by Vanilla Gorilla on Nov 6, 2008 11:15 AM EST reply actions

I'm in the first quarter of the reviewing

And I’m agreeing with everyone who’s saying AD is done. They just don’t guard him off the ball in the halfcourt.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

by Mike Prada on Nov 6, 2008 11:34 AM EST reply actions

Agreed, And He Makes DeShawn Even Worse

Again, I’m done defending DeShawn. He played horrible, even when AD was on the bench. But I think his deficiencies are exacerbated even more when he plays with AD, which is about 70% of the time. DeShawn can get hot when he’s given open looks around the arc, but no team is leaving him open since they don’t have to worry about AD. That’s why I think he plays so much better with Gil. Gil draws defenses and gives DeShawn open looks. AD doesn’t, and I think it’s that simple.

If I Were Eddie and I Wanted to Send a Message

I’d bench both AD and DeShawn, at least for one game. Start with Juan and Nick Young, who despite the perceived weaknesses, are playing great together.

Check out the gameflow. Juan and Nick Young together were +14, if I’m counting correctly. Hardly redundant. I don’t think you can have too many guys who can score almost at will. Together they stretched the defense paper thin.

Its the offense right now.

Yeah, our 1st and 4th Quarter defense was terrible – I think the 4th quarter was because of small ball, but that’s another rant – but our offense completely let us down in this game.

Caron looked good most of the game, but Stevenson and AD were terrible, and more importantly Jamison became a black hole. In the fourth we abandoned all ball movement and just let Jamison throw up some crap.

The starters really need to re-learn how to work together.

I just want to point out

Since nobody here has mentioned it…NY and Juan are doing their damage largely against the opponent’s backups. They might find it harder against starters. Not saying they can’t or wont.

Yeah, but at least they are putting the ball in the hoop.

You make a good point, but AD and DeShawn havent really set the bar terribly high here.

so i’m not as outraged as everyone else seems to be. role reversal i guess. maybe it’s that my underlying views seem to be more in alignment with everyone else’s now.

amidst all the bad things, two good things about this game:
1 – we make our free throws, we win.
2 – our bench is looking pretty good. young and mcgee!
