Beat me to it by 2 minutes
I’m going to go ahead and blame this on Juan Dixon shooting the lights out against them on Saturday.

Wow…
Not that I don’t love Iverson (he’s been my favorite non-Wizard since he played at Georgetown), but I don’t see how this really makes Detroit a more serious contender. He’s probably a bit better than Mr. Chauncey, but he’s also a year older and even more prone to decline due to his reliance on speed and a weak outside shot.
Still, it’ll be nice as a basketball fan to see even more Amir Johnson, even if he is Blatche-like in his inconsistency.
I don't get the feeling....
that Pistons fans will like this very much.

I knew Dumars wanted to overhaul the team but I’m still shocked.
Not sure about this one
Definitely a WOWOWOWOW. My stomach dropped when I saw the headline (because I didn’t know who the Pistons gave up) though I don’t know how much better they will be without Billups. Iverson is definitely the best player in the trade and might be able to put together one more really solid campaign. Detroit also gets a ton of salary cap flexibility after this year…I’m really not sure why Denver did this one.
Getting buckets since 2003.
this makes no sense
this is like those trades that the computer controlled teams make in franchise mode of nba live.

I like it
Things clearly weren’t working the way things were. If it doesn’t work out, you clear a lot of space for next year an you still have stuckey
I think
a good move for Detroit and another questionable one for the Denver front office. I’m not sure this will make a real difference for either team this year, but they weren’t going to get it done by staying put either.
Not sure why they couldn’t do this in the off-season, however, giving each player a training camp with the new team.
Yeah
The timing of this trade surprised me more than anything else. The only other trade of this magnitude that I can remember happening this early in the season was when Webber was traded to the Bullets (I’m probably forgetting an obvious big trade) and that was because the C-Webb was trying to force his way out of Golden State. There wasn’t anything toxic going on that forced either team to make this move. What made the trade more feasible now than 2 months ago?

Well now, there is a good start to the week...
Joe Dumars obviously felt he could not win the East standing pat…. And I guess he wanted to give Michael Curry a REAL coaching challenge…. AI AND Sheed, yikes!
The Wizards management would do well to ponder the implications of this…. Suppose for example we offered Blatche and Daniels to the Knicks for Starbury with the Knicks eating the 11 million or so difference in the contracts… Tell me you would not want to risk seeing a few months of Starbury and Young as our backcourt backed up by DS and Juan, giving Gil all the time he needs to get right…. by which point Starbury would hopefully have proven himself of value again and could be a trading chip for us.
I think the second and third tier teams are looking at the Lakers and Celtics and saying, dang, lets roll the dice here, the 2009 draft is not looking great, might as well shake up our roster and hope for a bolt from the blue.
Please kill me
I’d much rather have an awful rash all over my body than Stephon Marbury on the Wizards. There’s a reason his teams always suck, and then show great improvement upon his departure — he’s a cancer.

just daydreaming...
probably not a good idea… but some outside the box thinking is needed here :-)
How could Detroit trade Billups...
That’s crazy. I know this helps the Pistons financially and, of course, on the court, but Billups was arguably the face of the franchise and the finals MVP.
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
I dont think so
Yea Chauncey Billups was the finals MVP, but that was 4 years ago. Thats getting kind of old and its not like he’ll ever reach that level again. Also, they had about 3 faces of its franchises in those years. Its not like he was the center of attention the whole time he was in Detroit. I think this trade will really help Detroit in the long run.
The more I think about it
The more I realize it’s yet another stroke of brilliance. Detroit may not be better this year, but if it doesn’t work, they suddenly have tons of cap room to rebuild around their young guys. They don’t have to worry about Billups’ contract blocking Stuckey for the next three years.
Plus, who knows, maybe Iverson is the flair they need.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
Yeah - look at it this way...
They rent Allen Iverson for a year. He’s not so much of a downgrade from Billups as many people here seem to think; specifically, his Defense improved immensely under George Karl…. and he’s still one of the most explosive scorers in the League. Combine that with the fact that he won’t be playing 40 minutes a night any more (his back up is the quite capable Stuckey), and Iverson could stay much fresher in Detroit.
Now comes the really juicy part; the Cap flexibility that Joe Dumars just gave himself. With Allen Iverson’s expiring contract ($21 Million), along with Rasheed Wallace’s expiring deal ($13.68 million), and Walter Herrmann ($2 million) – assuming the Salary Cap is around $60 Million , the Pistons could have as much as $22 Million under the Cap to spend…
The Pistons just became one of the players in big-time free agency next summer. The Pistons can show prospective FA’s a winning environment, a respected general manager, and enough Cap space to sign at least two (count em – 2 ) top level Free Agents to max contracts over the Summers of 2009 and 2010.
2009 NBA Free Agents:
Jason Kidd, Lamar Odom, Shawn Marion, Hedo Turkoglu, Carlos Boozer (Player option)
2010 NBA Free Agents
LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Ray Allen, Tyson Chandler, Manu Ginobili, Richard Jefferson, Joe Johnson, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Redd.
Pick one (1) from column A (2009) and one from column B (2010), or two from Column B…. Either way, it looks like Detroit will be winning for another Decade to come.
And the good part? They didn’t mortgage their future by trading draft picks… They didn’t give up any young talent… AND, they really didn’t hurt their chances to be competitive THIS year….
since Detroit is in a trading mood . . . . . .
Andray Blatche straight up for Kwame. At least we KNOW Kwame is a bust, not just suspect so in Blatche’s case. AB’s getting on my nerves . . .what a knucklehead! All this hoop-di-clop about how much he’s matured and understands what the vets expect of him. Eddie J ought to toss his butt into the doghouse and nail the stupid door shut!
And didn’t Kwame just tear AB a new one the other night?
Anyway, I feel better now.
Thank you.
Night.
How About
We do khrabb’s trade for Starbury, using AD and Etan instead of AD and Blatche. Then we do oldcoltsfan’s trade of Blatche for Kwame straight up. And while we’re at it, let’s trade DeShawn to New Jersey straight up for Jarvis Hayes, who recently tore Locksmith a new one in much the same way that Kwame tore Blatche a new one.
Tell me you wouldn’t want to see a starting lineup of Kwame, Jamison, Caron, Jarvis, and Starbury!
OK, now I feel better now. :-)

Just read on Yahoo sports
That there is this guy named Le-something who will be a free agent soon. Apparently those Detroit folks think he might be pretty good. They’re hoping he’ll come join their little play group soon.
