Sally Jenkins's article
was anybody else taken aback by this one? she writes nothing about the wizards in several years then drops in saying how awful the team has been and basically insinuates that they haven't tried hard enough. okay, they've been bad on defense, we get it - but to straight up question these guys's committment? that's BS i think, especially considering how hard these guys competed last year.
i wasn't a big fan before, but now i'm really sour on Sally Jenkins.

Something I don't understand she said
For five-plus seasons under Jordan the Wizards — despite four playoff appearances — were blithely unconcerned with stopping the other team, and that chronic lack of commitment was the undoing of a terrifically nice man and promising young coach
This wasn’t his first coaching job. Not even his first head coaching job. He’s been coaching in the NBA since the early 90’s. How does that make him a young coach?.

What a stupid ass article
My favorite part is where she talks about Paul Pierce WANTING to guard Kobe Bryant with a championship hanging in the balance. Sally, great analogy there. No wonder Bullets fans are so scarred.

Yeah
I agree with the main point of her article (the defense’s suckitude doing the team in) but her support was lacking in my opinion. This was my favorite part:
It doesn’t take wholesale roster changes to alter a team’s defensive effort — evidence of that is the Boston Celtics.
While that’s true, she used quite possibly the worst example that you could use to prove that point. The Celtics had nine new players last season! It doesn’t get much more wholesale than that.

I didn't mind the article so much...
She seemed to jump around…and the article lacked complete sense. I guess I don’t care enough to fault her for it.
Yea, using the Celtics as an example was bad on a couple levels. The difference I’ll point to is that Garnett is the team leader and the team’s best defensive player.
None of the leaders on the Wizards, Butler, Jamison, and Arenas, are good defensive players in any way, shape or form.

I actually thought about calling her out
for several other factually dubious statements in the article, then I decided that I didn’t really care what she said about the firing. Basically: “meh.”
Shame about this article, because she’s a superb writer and generally I like her work.
Getting buckets since 2003.
