Chris Mannix: Eddie Jordan Doomed by Wizards' Vanishing Defense
Great article by Mannix on EJ's defenisve deficiencies. Two things jump out at me -- Ernie Grunfeld almost fired EJ at the beginning of 06/07, when we started 4-9, and that EJ spends most of his practices working on offense.
A must read.

Mannix lost me...
…when he said the Wizards’ defense was stingy last season. I guess Mannix hasn’t heard of this thing called “pace.” The Wizards gave up fewer points because they slowed down. Their defense was almost as bad last season as it was the year before.

Well, yeah
But that’s to be expected from a national writer. Pace isn’t part of their lexicon.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
Defense?
So we can’t defend outside, we can’t defend inside(at least not w/o Haywood) then what can we defend?
I'm not sure I agree about the injuries part
I agree that sitting Haywood for the whole season might be a good idea, but if Arenas is healed and ready to go, what’s wrong with playing him? Is he really supposed to sit out the entire season again if he’s able to play? He might lose his mind (even more so) if he can’t play for another 10 months.
The Wizards aren’t going to necessarily play better defense just because Jordan is gone, though. I’m glad they’ll spend more time on defense in practice, but who exactly on this team is a defensive stopper? Stevenson? Please. Butler? No. Hopefully Tapscott puts some better lineups on the floor and at least focuses on improving defensive rotations. But, really, the Wizards’ defense isn’t going to improve anytime soon when neither of the team’s three best players is known for strapping up on defense.
Arenas Needs to Play
If he’s healthy, he’s gotta get out there to get his NBA legs under him. I don’t think Arenas can afford to miss the entire season without getting any run on the court.

Not to be disagreeable
But you picked the only two things out of the article worth reading (1. EJ spent most of the practices on offense, 2. EJ was nearly fired 2 years ago). The rest of the article is full of warmed-over cliches and half-baked arm-chair analysis.
Getting buckets since 2003.

Remember the audience
He’s not writing to NBA insiders. He’s writing to casual fans. And in that respect, I think he succeeded.
