Hollinger's early season surprises
15. JaVale McGee, Wizards
Several players from this year's draft class have turned out better than expected, but McGee has received much less attention than the others.
Although the Wizards are mired at 1-8, McGee has been a revelation with his length, coordination and shooting ability for his size. Seen as a project on draft day, he's shooting 52.0 percent from the floor while averaging 15.9 points and 11.0 boards per 40 minutes, and he has taken over Washington's starting center spot. Best of all, he's only 20 years old, so he should be able to improve plenty from this point forward.

I was just about to post this but you beat me to it
I think the bigger news is that Hollinger gave the Wiz some love!
Getting buckets since 2003.

He's the one bright spot for me -
In this disastrous season. I’ve been surprised by him which is nice and I’m glad the sportswriters are beginning to appreciate him.

i think i read
that hollinger has some DC roots and actually was/is a fan of them outside of his work.

overly critical
I don’t think anyone here would argue that Hollinger has been overly critical of the Wizards.
Maybe he’s trying hard not to show favoritism — but if so, he’s over-compensating

Wha Wha Whaaaaat?
Dude… Dude!… There are three things I like to hate on in this blog community: The Miami Heat, Kwame frickin Brown, and John “good stats, crappy analysis” Hollinger.
I would totally argue that he’s overly critical of the Wizards. This season it’s warranted, because it’s no longer possible to be too critical of this squad. But in past seasons I think he’s been a fantastic example of what happens when good data analysts venture into realms that aren’t their strong suits.

i can't explain it
but i still root for kwame to do well somewhere.
it makes no sense, much in the same way being die-hard wiz fan doesn’t make sense.

He's a UVA grad
I believe.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

I'm pretty sure
that he’s a ’Skins fan – but not so sure if he has any allegiance to the Wizards.
Like Rook says, he might be over-compensating. Who knows. Either way, he was apparently right to hate on the Wiz this year, guess eventually his predictions were bound to be spot on!
Overall, I like Hollinger, he’s one of the better basketball writers out there, and his stats are pretty magical.
Getting buckets since 2003.
