Too depressed/busy to talk about last night

How a team that doesn't have any starters over 6'8'' outrebounds us by 19 is beyond me.

We officially stink again.  I didn't catch all of it and I have a ton going on now, but everyone else is encouraged to vent here.

Wizards Fans can officially start the Blake Griffin watch

Exactly what we need, a low post force that is not afraid to mix it up, rebound and score in the box. Will enable Wizards to do the Spurs thing when they drafted Duncan, stink this year and be in playoffs next year. Need to spend the rest of this season seeing if Bulletproof is a player or not and developing Young and McGee. Yes we suck!

lost year

although theres a chance we may still make the playoffs, this is still shaping up to be a year with low expectations that goes nowere

Andray Blatche > Lebron James

I refuse to give up on the year

Until Arenas comes back and we see what the team is like. Of course, if he doesn’t come back until January it may not even matter…

Getting buckets since 2003.

I'm with you

That’s the only reason I can’t stop paying attention. (That, and I blog of course). It’s going to be so important to see how Gilbert is and how he can adapt to the newish style of play.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

That makes three of us...

But do we simply rearrange the current deck chairs, or bring in some new furniture?

Count me....party of four.

What if Haywood comes back at the all-star break?

What if Gilbert comes back in January?

Stay medium (and don’t dig yourself too big of a hole)

On the other hand

Staying in the hunt, and limping into the playoffs could be just what this team DOES NOT need. Another mediocre season, barely making the playoffs, and bowing out in the 1st round. All that ensures is another mid 1st Round Draft pick next year. By that time in the Draft, all the really good players are gone – and you have to draft a second tier guy…

On the other hand, if the Wizards really are as bad as they’ve shown – and they don’t make the playoffs – they would be in the Lottery.

There are several players in the top 10 that could help the Wizards…..

Hasheem Thabeet, the 7’3" athletic shot blocking center from Connecticut. Play Thabeet at Center with JaVale McGee at PF – and NO ONE would make an easy shot inside against the Wiz.

Brandon Jennings – the 6’1" Point Guard, currently playing in Europe. Has speed and outstanding ball handling skills. Will change the tempo of the game.

The two best guys in the draft are:

Blake Griffin – the 6’10" PF from Oklahoma. Big, athletic, and aggressive. Excellent rebounder. Scores inside, even through contact. Sounds like a perfect fit for the “soft inside” Wizards

Ricky Rubio – This kid is going to be the next Point Guard to win the MVP in the NBA. He is truly amazing. Play Ricky at Point, and Gilbert at Shooting Guard.

Point is… Unless Ernie is able to pull off a miracle trade – the only way to improve this team is through the draft – and unless you have high draft picks (Top 10 or better), it’s a crap shoot.

I agree …. so much can change when Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood come back. The team just needs to stay within striking distance of the playoffs until then.

Tanking is no guarantee...

And it usually doesn’t make sense……it’s a scientific fact.

give it some time

yeah, we’re gonna be bad in the short term, but this is nowhere near as bad as it used to be.

by DarrellWalkerFan on Nov 16, 2008 12:20 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I am far from advocating for any kind of tank job

I assume that everyone who wants us to tank this early wasn’t predicting 50 wins for us this year with a healthy squad.

Granted, 1-6 is far from being on track for 50 wins, and its tough watching us suffer without Gilber again, but what happens when we get him back in December? You think he is going to want to hold back on picking and popping with AJ or running the break with Caron….. or tossing the sick oop to JaVale eraly and OFTEN???

Then after the all-star break, we should be getting Brendan back. Send Etan to the end of the bench, Brendan starts, and with NY, JaVale, and Antonio Daniels as our 6, 7, and 8th men coming off the bench, we suddenly look deep again. If we are anywhere near .500, especially in the East, we have a good chance to get in the playoffs. And we can take the optimistic approach of our deeper bench players getting all this early game time and experience (even though it doesn’t look like they are making much of it right now).

Then we show up in the playoffs as a pretty strong lower seed, much capable of upsetting a, say, Cleveland squad……… now who would rather tank than see something like that possibly happen????

Dear Diary, JACKPOT!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed

We simply need to be within shouting distance of .500 by the time Gilbert returns. The season isn’t over. Not yet at least.

by zeke5123 on Nov 16, 2008 1:20 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i'd like to share that optimism

but it sounds like haywood is out for the entire season, and who knows what they get from Gilbert.

plus, the core problems – defense, ball movement on offense – are team-wide problems, not to be solved by 1 or 2 players coming back (Haywood would help out a ton on defense though, but not until next year)

BH's wrist injury is so up in the air...

That we can’t tell one way or the other at this point….moot.

Griffin

Like I said before, I think Griffin would be an awesome fit here. But I’m not giving up on this season either.

If only we could trade Taser for one day and have him put up 30 on us off their bench before we got him back...

All about the young guys

Call it a tank job or not, at this point in the season I’m interested in seeing lots of minutes for Young, Blatche, and JaVale (McGuire too, but to a lesser extent). Let’s give ‘em burn and see what they’re capable of. Best case scenario, they make the most of the time, Gil comes back and we have a deep bench, starters who haven’t been run into the ground, and a chance to squeak into the playoffs. Worst case, we develop our rooks, put less wear and tear on Jamison and Caron, and pair a revitalized Gil who’s had time to show flashes on the court again with a high draft pick next year.

Unfortunately my 77-5 prediction won’t be coming true.
