Guy from BlazersEdge
I have been lurking in the background for a while trying to get to know your team and your site. Our site leader (what are they called?) Dave from BlazersEdge has assigned some of us to check out other sites and see what kind of Blazer talk is going on out there in the SB Nation and help fellow BE readers get to know teams' strengths and weaknesses and their fans' points of view as match-ups with that team get closer.
Basically, I think he is trying to give some of us something to do instead of put fanposts up on his site.
Anyway, I have given my first update of Bullets Forever to the BE readers and thought you might want to check it out and maybe see what is being cussed and discussed over at the BlazersEdge.
Enjoy your season and good luck against the Pistons tonight.
This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

Hey Bullets Forever
Another poster from BlazersEdge popping in to say hi here. Tough break on Arenas’ knee — I really hope he bounces back well, because when he’s healthy, he’s virtually unguardable (and anybody playing well in the east who isn’t the Celtics is A-OK by me) and I’ve always had a soft spot for the “We’re just gonna outscore everybody” Wizards mentality.
So, actual question: what’s the consensus on Nick Young? Is he gonna be a player, or is he just a gunner?

Definitely no consensus yet. But I’m not sure we don’t mind him being a gunner if he can do it well. At least if you’re talking about a good connotation of “gunner”: creating his own shot, driving, consistent.
He’s currently in the process of going nuts against Detroit, so any comments may not be objective.

Good point about the gunner definition
In my head it carries a negative connotation, but hey, Travis Outlaw fits the definition to a T. I like Nick Young; he was a dang good player in his year at USC, and he helped out my fantasy team last year after Butler went down. Speaking of…man, there’s a guy I’d love to see on the Blazers. He’d fill that shaky SF spot perfectly. What a player.

To elaborate slightly
I would say that the consensus on Nick is that he is promising and not a bust. (I think a solitary vocal opposition on this site has been booed off the stage, so to speak.) The expectation going in with NY was that he was going to be an above average offensive player, and below average with passing and defense. I think he has slightly exceeded my expectations on both counts.
In addition to the caveat about his play tonight, I like him more after seeing the documentary on him that aired on ESPN2 a few weeks ago.
Also, no, you may not have Caron Butler.

So far this year....
Nick Young has really been working hard to get into the paint and separation for mid-range shots.
He’s only taken three 3s in two games, so I’d say that Young is aiming to be less of a gunner.
Interesting project you guys have at BlazersEdge….thanks for stopping by.

Cool
I’m curious, what’s your attitude towards Greg Oden at this point? Impatient or still hopeful?
My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver

Definitely depends on who you ask
I’d like to think the majority of Blazers fans are taking the long view with him — he’s still a phenomenally talented basketball player, a game-changer defensively (even in the limited minutes we’ve seen of him) and a guaranteed dunk attempt once he grabs the ball within two feet of the basket. I’m an eternal optimist; given that, I’m taking the glass-half-full approach.
But there’s definitely a small-but-vocal minority saying that we blew the pick, we should have picked Durant, Oden’s a bust, et cetera et al. It’s wholly obnoxious IMO — perhaps we did screw up by drafting Oden, but I think it’s far too early to ascertain that at this point — but c’est la vie. We’re definitely impatient to see what he can do, but not necessarily impatient with the vagarities of basketball injury, if that makes sense.

Still hopeful...
I agree with BlazersOrBust on that count. I had a funny feeling that I suppressed when Kevin Pritchard called Oden our opening day starter during the telecast of our final game against Memphis last year. Like I said, I suppressed the feeling and took his comments as a sign that he was further along to recovery than expected and would be ready not just for the season, but to make a huge impact.
It might have helped everybody, Greg, the team, and the fans, to have KP say something like, “We expect Greg to be ready to compete for the starting spot in training camp” instead of designating him the starter in the spring. He then could have come into spring with the pressure to make the starting line-up instead of the pressure to be a world beater from minute one. His focus could have been on his development instead of on meeting the expectations of fans and himself.
All that said, I think he just needs to get on the court and play and let it all come back to him. The Blazers have Roy and Aldridge to take the pressure off of him on offense and I am confident he will be a beast on the boards at least and that will be a big help to a team that struggles against big, physical teams.

Welcome
to both of you. I read Blazer’s Edge occasionally, and it’s a quality site. I also am not sure there’s a consensus on Young, though personally I’m really excited about what he can do.
