According to a team source I talked to after the draft, and also reported in the Commercial Appeal, the Grizzlies had a draft-day deal in place that would have sent Javaris Crittenton to the Washington Wizards for their first-round draft pick (#18 — where the Grizzlies were set to take Courtney Lee). The deal was contingent on certain players being off the board when the Wizards picked. When Nevada seven-footer JaVale McGee was still available, the Wizards declined the deal.

Now I'm really getting curious as to how high Grunfeld had McGee on his draft board going in. But just think, if this trade had gone through, it would've involved the only two players in the NBA whose names start with Java.

Whatever
I know you’re looking for opportunities to complain about Nick Young, but remember that this was before we signed Dee Brown and Juan Dixon. We were going to need guards either way. This says nothing about Nick Young.

I'm not following....
Is billyjoe talking about Nick Young?
If so, he and Crittenton play different positions.

Would've loved to have Crittenton
And you are right, we did need guards anyway.
