Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

No Your Links: 1/7/08

  • Don't hold your breath waiting for another McGuire-Young boxing match.  After another lackluster performance from the bench, Eddie is putting the young'uns in the timeout chair.
"The bench has to get better," Jordan said. "Our last two games, I'm not pleased with our intensity, our concentration level, especially from our younger guys. Roger [Mason Jr.] has been pretty solid. Darius [Songaila], we've been waiting for him to get some more lively legs and [yesterday] was a good sign but the rest of our bench, our younger guys, they have to get better. They have to get better."

After the game, veterans Antonio Daniels, DeShawn Stevenson and Antawn Jamison said they are in the process of re-arranging the locker room. The idea is to separate Andray Blatche and rookies Nick Young and Dominic McGuire to create a more serious pregame environment.

Said Stevenson: "We've got too much joking and playing around going on in here before games."

Somewhere, Dan Steinberg is banging his head against something.
  • Empty the Bench recently ranked some of the top shot blockers in the NBA and Unsilent Majority makes a case that Andray Blatche should be ranked higher up.
  • Did anyone else notice that Caron didn't block a shot against Milwaukee?
  • It's not often that you see 5 NBA Finals rematches in one night.
  • If you still think trading for Larry Hughes is a good idea, I'd consider looking at this.

Meh
I don't find that dis-Larry Hughes site particularly informative. Hughes has never been an especially accurate shooter from the field. He's a good scorer who can get his own shot, and he made some very clutch buckets while he was in DC. He's also a versatile player who contributes in ways other than scoring.

I understand that Cleveland badly overpaid for a player who doesn't fit well with their team, and that's frustrating for Cavs fans, but I find sites dedicated to just bashing dudes annoying.

It's just one of those things
Just about any bash site isn't going to be particularly informative, just like any super-hype site isn't going to especially informative either (besides Gilbertology of course).  I just found this one to be especially unique because the URL is insaaaaaaaaaanely long.

Veteran Leadership
IIRC, the last time Wiz "veterans" got this upset, it was during the MJ playing days when Kwame, Brendan, and Etan got benched in favor of Laettner, Russell, and Oakley. Hopefully, this set of youngins will respond better. I have to say that while I really enjoyed the v-logs and shenanigans of the group formerly known as the F3, I always had a nagging feeling they were going too far. It's one thing to blog if you're an all-star like Arenas. It's a whole different game if you're a struggling rookie/young player.

Re the LH bash site: I agree it's wholly uninformative, but the URL did make me laugh out loud. If anything, I think it (the web site) overemphasizes LH's importance to the Cavs. When I think of their playoff run last year, I don't think of LH posting huge numbers; on the contrary, I think of Boobie, Sideshow Bob w/ elephantitis, and the man named Sasha as the keys to that team (Lebron is obviously a given).

Re the DC Sports Wizard article: Truly colorful analysis. In my wildest imagination, I would never have been able to put the Wiz, contractually obligated girlfriends, latenight Taco Bell eating, and dumper's remorse all in the same context.

Blatche Contract
One note about the DC Sports Wizard article - Did we not sign Blatche to a multi-year deal before the season began?

Yeah, I was going to let them know about that
I don't see how anyone can forget that, what with the solicitation controversy and all.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

blew that one
apparently I blew it on that one. I was using a hoops hype site that apparently wasn't updated after Blatche was resigned.  http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries/washington.htm

That's what I figured
No worries.  For a site that is used by so many for salary cap data, HoopsHype updates really slowly.  It's frustrating.
