Has Gilbert Arenas Actually 'Opted Out' Yet?

Is it up to Gilbert to follow through on his word and opt out at the end of the season, or has he already signed the papers and is opted out of his contract next season?

I'm curious because we're all thinking under the obligation that Gilbert Arenas will opt out at the end of the season, but if it's still up to him I'm not positive he will actually go ahead and opt out.

It's not totally to his benefit to opt out at the end of the season, since he is coming off serious knee surgery.

He may want to grab one more big contract in case he never comes back to full strength, or maybe he wants one season to prove he's healthy.

At the end of this season, no teams will have significant cap room without letting some of their free agents leave, it's not a great year to be looking for a max deal.

Is Gilbert Arenas, coming off missing big time in 2 consecutive seasons, really gonna get that much more than 12 million and be in a better situation?  I just dont think it's that kind of year.

Gilbert Arenas might have just learned why it pays to have an agent and not talk so much.

This is a good question
I'm not 100 percent sure how it works, to be honest.   I think Gilbert can still decide not to opt-out, as I remember Mike Bibby initially wanting to opt-out of his deal last year before deciding not to, but I could just have revisionist history stuck in my brain.

No matter the injury situation, though, Gilbert seems like he's got his head set on opting out.  Do I think it's wise?  Perhaps not, but I still don't see him changing his mind.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Also
Though nobody really has cap room, a sign-and-trade remains a possibility.

I don't think he has opted out yet -
I think he opts out at the end of the season and has not signed the papers yet. I only base that on his blog entries when he writes about his contracts. He has said he wants to opt out and get max money here or he will go somewhere else for less money to win a championship. I am on a wait and see approach - he seems to be a smart guy and also had those few blog entries about taking what you are worth regarding Deng, Okafor etc so my guess/hope is he will see how he plays when he gets back and if he is less than a 100% stick around for another year or maybe think to himself maybe I will take less than the max from the Wiz. I think on another thread someone mentioned that Philly is the only team next year with the big bucks to spend.
