Eddie Jordan's revenge

We had a great win over the Heat last night, looking good over a struggling division rival. Let's face it, that line they gave us was a joke.

While, it was a good win, something popped up in this game: Eddie Jordan's poor substitutions. Again. They're baaaaaaaaaack.

In the last two games we've seen a disturbing trend: Nick Young losing playing time to Roger Mason, Jr. Nick didn't get into the game at all last night, despite Mason going into full Jarvis Hayes-chuck-'em-mode.

Young being held out of the game wasn't the most disturbing part. What bothered me was that in crunch time, EJ left Mason in, over Stevenson when he was ON FIRE. DeShawn had a great scoring night and was playing good defense on Wade - who had 8 turnovers - but EJ left Mason in. Mason's poor defense on Wade in the beginning of the fourth was one of the reasons that the game was as close as it was.

I know we won the game, but I'm starting to think that Mason is becoming one of "Eddie's Players," a guy who gets PT for no reason besides the fact that Eddie likes him.

This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

Agree
Agree with this that Mason certainly should not be in there at crunch time unless the Wiz need a three. I also think that there is no reason Nick Young should ever have a DNP next to his name unless he is hurt. Mason should get some minutes and has been playing well lately but in the end if his shot isn't falling he brings almost nothing to the table (not good defensively). Mason does seem to be a Jordan favorite and it is a little bit alarming. Hard to complain too much these days cause the Wiz are playing great and are good times to watch. How bout this question are there 8 guys in the league you'd trade butler for at this point?

That's Funny
Charley Rosen seemed to imply that Mason played good defense on D-Wade.

  • After Dwyane Wade routinely punctured Washington's interior defense in the second quarter, the Wiz put Mason on him, doubled him, jammed him and held him scoreless in the third quarter.

Actually, RMJR didn't do too bad, IMHO. He had 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists in nearly 21 minutes of playing time. His plus/minus number was a -1, but he wasn't nearly as bad as Blatche last night (-16 +/-).

I'd agree with Charley
Mason played really well last night, particularly defensively in the fourth quarter against Wade.  When Wade got his two easy layups, it was when AD picked him up on a switch when Wade had a full head of steam.

It isn't right for Young to have a DNP-CD, but with Stevenson and Mason playing so well, I'm not sure who I would have taken out for him.  Perhaps Eddie could have tried a Young-Mason backcourt.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

About Charley.
I read this too, and I just couldn't believe it. We were pretty bad guarding the pick and roll last night, and Mason was a big part of that. I know he only had a -1 plus/minus, but I think that doesn't tell the whole story.

To me, the biggest issue is Mason being left in for Stevenson in crunch time. If I remember correctly, Mason came in for Stevenson in the third. Then Stevenson came in for Daniels, so Mason was running the point. Deshawn cooled off some, but he was still hitting threes in the fourth and playing much better D on Wade than Mason. EJ then PULLED Stevenson for Daniels. No way you take the leading scorer out and leave Mason, who wasn't lighting it up (he finished 3 of 9) in during crunch time.

Also,
Eddie did veto a Mason-Young backcourt, saying Daniels or Stevenson had to be in the game. Although a Young-Stevenson backcourt worries me some, I don't mind it for short periods of time. Young has played too well to get DNPs, EJ needs to find him some PT each game.
